Position Announcement: Biomathematical Programmer Analyst
The Division of Sleep Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston is advertising a position suitable for a budding computational person who is interested in acquiring experience in the research setting. The position is for a programmer in their Analytics and Modeling Group which has developed mathematical models of the effect of light/schedules on human performance. The goal of the project is to tailor simulation software developed in house to meet the needs of NASA's schedule designers.  Although they are searching for a full time person, they will consider experienced applicants for a Co-op/intern/temporary position. The purpose of this workshop (June 16-18, 2008, University of Delaware) is to encourage women and minority computer science/engineering students to obtain a Ph.D. in computer science. The workshop has a strong focus on undergraduates and also graduate students who are enrolled in MS programs. Topics will include information about work being done in several areas of systems research and mentoring with respect to helping students prepare for and apply to graduate school. The workshop will feature leaders in computer systems research from academia and industry to share their expertise in the kind of research typically performed after obtaining a Ph.D. Students who participate will be reimbursed for all reasonable travel expenses.

Collaborative Research Experiences for Undergraduates (CREU)

Sponsored by CRA's Coalition to Diversify Computing (CDC) and the Committee on the Status of Women in Computing Research (CRA-W), the CREU program is geared toward increasing the number of women and minorities who go on to CS&E graduate programs. Students have the opportunity to conduct undergraduate research with a small team (2-4 students) at their home institution during the academic year.

Mathematicians who are close to finishing the doctorate or have recently finished are invited to become part of Mathematics Research Communities, a program to develop and sustain long-lasting cohorts for collaborative research. The program includes: one-week summer conferences for each topic (June 14-27, 2008 - Snowbird Resort, Utah), discussion networks by research topic, ongoing mentoring, and a longitudinal study of early career mathematicians.

2008 "Junior Summer Abroad" Research Program in Europe for Undergraduate U.S. Students

Work in an experienced, collaborative research team to develop and apply algorithms and software. This program includes eight weeks in Europe (June 30 - August 22), a $2,000 stipend, housing, food and transportation paid, extensive contact with graduate student mentors and professors, training in cyberinfrastructure, arranged tours and outings, and participation in a concluding workshop.
